Since opening its doors in September 2007 in downtown Abu Dhabi, this school has consistently been a popular choice with expatriate parents. It now offers four foundation (kindergarten) classes and follows the English National Curriculum up to Year 6. The outstanding facilities include an Astroturf field, large indoor sports hall, 25m swimming pool, as well as excellent ICT resources. In its short, six-year history, the school has grown to four form entry and now has over 600 children on roll. The school has retained a ‘small school ethos’ whilst growing to accommodate a diverse population. The Pearl Primary School has become increasingly popular as a first choice for parents because of the attention to detail and the exemplary outcomes in learning for all children. What the inspectors say The most recent inspection in 2014 has highlighted the school’s excellence with Standards in English, Mathematics and Science deemed by Inspectors from the UK to be outstanding. Students also make outstanding progress and acquire excellent basic skills in the lower grades, as a result of excellent subject knowledge by teachers. Outstanding work is achieved in small groups or through individual pre-teaching for students who have special educational needs. The development of a moral framework is outstanding, behaviour is exemplary at all times and students are very respectful of staff, showing respect and compassion for others. There is an outstanding range of extension and extra-curricular activities, which include master classes for gifted and talented students. Excellent arrangements for all aspects of the safeguarding of students are in place. An outstanding range of resources enhance the classrooms, shared areas, the library and teacher resource areas. The Music and Sports departments have excellent equipment. The Principal provides outstanding leadership and a very clear vision and strategic direction for the school. Curriculum The school follows the National Curriculum for England, with additional lessons in Arabic language, Islamic Studies and Social Studies to meet the requirements of the UAE Ministry of Education and Abu Dhabi Education Council. Core subjects include Mathematics, English, Science and ICT and Foundation subjects include Design and Technology, History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages (Year 3 upwards), Music, Art and Design, Physical Education and PSHCE. The school also offers four foundation classes for pupils aged three to five. A Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) programme runs throughout the school. From Year 5, it also includes Citizenship. A rich programme of extra-curricular activities is offered after the end of the school day to children in Years 2 to 6. Fees Yearly fees for FS1 to Year 6 are 39,600 (about $10,781 or £6,770) dirhams per year, split into three termly fees. There is also a registration fee of 500 dirhams, payable on offer of a place.
