Founded in 1976, the American International School - Salzburg is organized as a private boarding school. The school provides a college preparatory education to students from around the world who wish to continue their education at selective tertiary institution in which English is the language of instruction. The academic program is rigorous with emphasis on Advanced Placement level coursework in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades leading to an American High School diploma with AP credentials. Successful completion of the school's diploma leads to acceptance at select universities in the USA, Europe, and around the world. All faculty members hold university degrees and/or certification and have over 15 years teaching experience on average. Most faculty members hold advanced degrees and are multilingual. Approximately 30% of the students are North Americans whose parents are employed overseas. The student body, although small, represents over 20 nationalities each year. The average stay at the school is three years and university placement is 100% each year. The school year begins in early September and ends late in May. A three-week winter break encompasses Christmas and New Year. The academic program is enhanced by an arts and music requirement, physical education and athletics, social and cultural events, field trips, weekend outings, and overnight excursions throughout Europe each trimester. Classrooms, dormitories, dining facilities, laboratories (science, computer, language), common rooms, outdoor sports facilities and the library are all housed on the main school campus which is located two miles from the center of Salzburg. AIS-S employs a selective rolling admissions policy. Qualified candidates are accepted year-round, provided space is available. Interested parties should contact the school to receive a catalogue and application materials. |
