Mission Statement
To
provide students with the highest quality training in the culinary
arts and baking & pastry arts in order to fully prepare them for
entry level employment in the hospitality industry and; to provide the
hospitality industry with a source of well trained graduates for hiring
into their entry level positions and; to have our graduates represent
the Institute in the finest restaurants and hotels around the world.
Demand for
Professional Chefs Rise
The profile of a
Canadian or International student attending Pacific Institute of
Culinary Arts ranges from high school graduate to career change, each
with a love for cooking and/or baking. Career change represent 60 per
cent of Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts students. Career change
graduates are more often seeking an entrepreneurial career, whereas
other graduates are choosing to begin their careers in restaurants and
hotels throughout the world. Others choose catering, personal chef on
yachts, hotels and restaurants throughout Canada, the U.S. and the
world.
Two
full time six month professional programs are offered at PICA, Culinary
Arts and Baking & Pastry Arts, with a maximum class size of 15 students
to 1 Chef Instructor. Classes commence every January, April, June and September
and students may choose either a morning or afternoon
schedule.

Pacific Institute of
Culinary Arts is set amid this beauty, industry and energy. We are
located at the ocean's edge, at the entrance to Granville Island, near
the heart of downtown Vancouver. Granville Island is an eclectic
enclave of businesses, restaurants, a visual arts school, public market,
galleries and theatres that attracts an estimated 250, 000 visitors each
month.
Our Programs
Culinary Arts
6 month full-time
program. This
875
hour program is for
those seeking employment upon graduation in the food industry. Classes
are 7 hours per day, 5 days per week.
Choose between an AM or PM schedule,
Monday to Friday.
Students are trained in state-of-the-art commercial kitchens with 90%
hands-on instruction and 10% theory. The first portion of the program
focuses on classical technique training. The last 3 months are spent operating the Institute's gourmet restaurant
and catering division. Classes commence January, April, July and
September.
Class ratio
15 students to 1 Chef Instructor.
Baking & Pastry Arts
6 month full-time
program This
875hour program is for
those seeking to learn the professional art of baking and pastry for
employment in the industry upon graduation. Classes are 7 hours per
day, 5 days per week.
Choose between an AM
or PM schedule, Monday to Friday.
Students are trained in state-of-the-art commercial kitchens with 90%
hands-on instruction and 10% theory. The first portion of the program
focuses on classical technique training. The final portion of the
program is spenton a
la carte desserts and pastry arts and operating the Institute's bakeshop
and catering division.
Class ratio 12 students to 1 Chef Instructor.
Admission Requirements
Admission to Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts may
be granted to any individual who meets the following prerequisites:
Education
High
School graduate or equivalent, if 19 years of age or over, student may
apply as a mature student.
Citizenship
Canadian citizenship; landed immigrant or immigration approval (study
permit)
Language
The
ability to read, write and converse in the English language
Attitude
A
positive attitude and a sincere motivation to learn
Attribute
A
serious commitment to becoming a professional culinarian
High School Scholarships
To assist graduating high school students in pursuing
their education, Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts offers High School
Scholarships. These scholarships are designed to recognize academic
excellence. Up to three $500 scholarships will be available each year.
Applications for High School Scholarships may be
obtained from Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts.
Applications should be sent to the Institute,
postmarked on or before April 30. Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts
will select the recipients of the High School Scholarships no late than
May 31. Each scholarship must be accepted by June 30 and each recipient
must begin their program choice within twelve months of their high
school gradation.
