The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences was created to
respond to the educational requirements for health sciences
professionals and for the continuing education of health care
practitioners. A pilot program developed by hospital-based
physicians and medical technologists in 1958 demonstrated the value
of combining learning in an educational environment with clinical
education in a teaching hospital.
All full-time programs offered
by The Michener Institute include educational preparation as well as
clinical education at one or more affiliated clinical sites located
throughout Ontario and beyond. Today more than 400 health
professionals instruct on a full or part-time basis in the diploma,
advanced diploma, certificate and continuing education programs
affording Michener students access to a unique resource of teachers
and learning material.
As a post-secondary, diploma and certificate granting
institution, The Michener Institute is one among a few Ontario
universities and colleges responding to the education needs in
health care. The Michener Institute prides itself on its ability to
provide current and innovative health care education and thus aims
to address unmet educational requirements rather than duplicating
existing programming offered by other post-secondary institutions in
and outside of Ontario.

people here and it's hard not to build lasting
friendships, especially with the students in your
program.
Your initiation into Michener's community begins on
the first day of orientation. You'll interact with and
get to know fellow students while hitting the town on
pub night, getting some grub at the annual courtyard BBQ
or running through the streets of Toronto in the highly
competitive scavenger hunt.
During the course of the year, there are plenty of
social events organized by the Student Council. Students
determine all of the events, so individual activities
vary from year to year. Previous students have enjoyed:
Blue Jays and Raptors games
Pub & club nights
Ski trips
Boat cruises
Canada's Wonderland trips
Halloween parties, complete with DJ and pizza
