Curriculum IBDP

Language of Instruction English Carlsbad International School (CIS) is a private day and boarding school offering IB Diploma and pre-diploma programmes in English for boys and girls, ages 14-18, in the heart of Europe.

We offer an exceptional level of academics and residential care, including tailored activity programme and structured academic support that prepare our students for university and beyond. Our mission is to provide opportunities for life-long learning, inspire academic success, develop inquiring minds, and grow our students as positive members of our local and global communities. The CIS campus is located in the beautiful countryside of the Czech Republic, 120 km west of Prague airport, in the renowned spa town of Karlovy Vary, or Carlsbad in English.

Our international community of teachers and learners, along with our secure and luxurious new facility, truly make Carlsbad International School a great place to live and learn. Enrolment options include full boarding, 5-day boarding, extended day student and standard day student.

Culturals are 4-5 day required school trips taken twice each year, within the Czech Republic and around Europe. In small groups, students study and explore the history and culture of a city or region. Study and writing time are given during the evenings, and a student report is required following the excursion.

The Activity Programme runs four days a week with students taking two physical and one service activity each semester. 9th grade students are required to participate in all four days of activities. In the winter students are encouraged to participate in the snow sports programme, which brings students to the mountains once a weekend to ski or snowboard.

CIS is proud to offer the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Programme. 9th and 10th grade students participate in the Bronze level award while 11th and 12th grade students have the opportunity to participate in the Silver or Gold level awards.

Rich history surrounds us. Our namesake, Karl IV became an inspired leader, founded healing springs, was beloved, and truly cosmopolitan. 700 years later, we welcome our students to the Heart of Europe where you will consider the simplest questions: What will you do with the gifts you have been granted? What will you become with each new cultural experience? What will you contribute to our wired and connected world? That's a good mission. Come and join CIS.
