The Schuldorf is a campus that hosts all of the different kinds of schools available in Germany. The International Preschool is a unique bilingual - English and German – learning community sponsored and owned by the local district county, Landkreis Darmstadt-Dieburg. There are 75 children and ten members of staff, all of whom hold university degrees or certification as well as international teaching experience. There are three groups of mixed-age children (ages3-6). Each group has at least one native English speaker, two full-time teachers and one part-time teacher. The children learn in small groups and the last year of preschool is equivalent to Kindergarten/Reception class. The most important goal at the International Preschool is to provide children with a wide variety of learning activities so they can become inquisitive and eager to learn new skills both in English and in German. The school creates a language rich environment that fosters and celebrates multilingualism. The curriculum was originally based on the Early Years Foundation Stages and it has grown and expanded to include the IPC (International Primary Years – Early Years Program). |
