The bilingual coeducational Primary School PHORMS Berlin Mitte offers a modern inquiry based approach to education with a unique curriculum unified throughout Germany. This addresses and fulfils the requirements of the Berlin Senate State Curriculum and is supported by the Cambridge International Primary Years Programme. Lessons are taught in German and English using the immersion method. Currently the school enrolls students aged 3 to 15. A balanced social mix of students is achieved through a dynamic admissions process, for which the criteria are based on gender, income level of the parents, nationality etc.
In the primary school, the importance of core subjects is acknowledged: maths, science, social studies, language, (reading, writing and spoken skills), sport, information communication technology and the arts. Opportunities for cross-curricular activities are maximised through project work and a thematic approach to planning.
In the secondary school our intention is to offer the MSR and the IGCSE in grade 10, and the International Baccalaureate programme (subject to authorisation) and the German Abitur in grade 12. In the secondary schools, core subject teaching is extended to include the acquisition of an additional language and meet the demands of university entrance examinations.
PHORMiniS, the early years programme also conducted according to the immersion method closely follows the “Foundation Stage Curriculum” and the requirements of the state of Berlin.
Provisions are made for Special Needs and there is an extensive After School Activities Programme.
The school is a non-profit organisation and is located in the suburb of Mitte in Berlin. The building contains renovated, modern primary classrooms boasting interactive SMARTboards as well as art and music rooms, a library, a multipurpose room, and computer and science labs. The school is close to local sporting facilities and parks
PHORMS teaching staff is experienced and well-qualified placing great emphasis on Continued Professional Development. Teachers have been recruited from over 10 different countries. In the early years programme and primary school, there are two teaching staff per class.
Classes are small with a maximum of 22 students in the primary school and 24 in the secondary. Great emphasis is given to the development of the whole child.
