Climate:Haiti enjoys a tropical climate and the weather is generally hot and humid, with sultry, warm nights. The rainy season runs from October to May and there are often severe storms during the hurricane season, between June and October, when there is the risk of flooding and hurricanes.
Language:One of Haiti's two official languages is French, which is the principal written and administratively authorized language. It is spoken by all educated Haitians, is spoken in schools, and is used in the business sector.
Population:The population of Haiti in 2003 was estimated by the United Nations at 8, 326, 000, which placed it as number 90 in population among the 193 nations of the world. In that year approximately 4% of the population was over 65 years of age, with another 43% of the population under 15 years of age.
Capital City:Port-au-Prince is capital and largest city of the Caribbean nation of Haiti. The city's official population was 704, 776 as of the 2003 census.
