Learning Support Programme
The International School of Trieste was founded in 1964 and offers a diploma that is recognized by the Italian Government. It was founded primarily to accommodate the children of the scientists from the nearby International Centre for Theoretical Physics.

The school offers a full curriculum from Kinder-2 to Grade 12. A complete general science program includes practical work and field trips for the upper grades. Modern mathematics is also taught throughout. Each student must complete a series of core courses in Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, Italian English Language and Literature. In addition, students choose in the Upper School between a set of elective courses as well as between the modern languages of German, French and Spanish. Flexibility in the student assignment and individualization of instruction are key elements in the program. Pre-school instruction begins with students from 2-4 years old.

All teachers hold either university/college degrees or teachers' certificates and have a wide range of experience. Approximately 50% of the school faculty is made up of teachers permanently residing in the area.

The student body is approximately 80% Italian and 20% other nationalities. There are four terms in the school year, generally beginning the second week in September and ending mid-June. Field trips are arranged throughout the year, not only in Trieste, but also in other places of interest in Italy throughout Europe. The school is housed in a modern school building located outside the city in a green area. Admission is based on an adequate command of the English language and availability of space. The school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.
