Vientiane International School (VIS) is an independent, non-profit, fully authorized IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma (DP) Programmes from Early Years through Grade 12. The school received initial accreditation in 2001 from both the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS) and was re-accredited in December 2011. Vientiane International School is the only school in Lao PDR to receive accreditation from international accreditation agencies.
Our mission is to challenge, inspire and prepare learners for life. We provide a safe, respectful, collaborative and sustainable learning environment. We offer a high quality, holistic education that empowers learners to be internationally minded global citizens and also offer enriching learning experiences through interaction with the Lao community and our international communities.
The school has a strong ethos of Community, Action and Service and has made many connections in the Lao community that have developed the cultural understanding and global awareness of our students and the school community as a whole. Strong connections have been made through the relationships and partnerships that students have developed through supporting our Lao sister school and through Secondary Action Learning Service Adventure (SALSA) trips.
VIS students come from diverse backgrounds with over 40 different nationalities represented within the student body. A large percentage of the parents are professionals from embassies, NGOs and international companies. Our student body has a transient rate of approximately 20% each year and our curriculum ensures students successfully transition to their next international school or English-medium school in their home country. Our Diploma students are likewise well prepared for acceptance into a college or university with the majority of students attending a quality university upon graduation.
VIS also offers an extensive co-curricular programme where students can engage in a wide variety of activities after school. The school is part of the Mekong River International Schools Association (MRISA), which enables our students and those from neighbouring countries to regularly take part in sporting and cultural exchanges.
