Learning Support Programme
The International Department of Haagsche Schoolvereeniging (HSV) offers an international education as an integral part of a Dutch primary school. There are twelve such schools across the Netherlands. The Department occupies three buildings near the centre of The Hague. The original building houses both Dutch and international schools whilst the other two buildings have only international students.
The International Department enjoys a good reputation. The school caters for the expatriate community as well as returning and departing Dutch nationals whose children need the continuity of an English medium education.
The objective based curriculum delivers English literacy and mathematics skills based on the scope and sequence of the English National Curriculum. An integrated approach based on the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) is used by class teachers to deliver humanities and science, whilst artistic and expressive subjects are taught by specialist Dutch teachers. Where possible these specialist lessons are delivered to mixed classes of Dutch and international children. In such cases the language of instruction is Dutch. A student attending integrated classes, in addition to Dutch language lessons, will receive around 22% of their teaching in Dutch.
The school community is cosmopolitan with over fifty nationalities represented amongst the pupil body. Many families are drawn to the city to work for Non-Government or UN organisations.
The Lighthouse Special School for international children with special needs is also part of our organisation. If you are interested please look on the website below: http: //www.hsvdenhaag. nl/
