Auckland Institute of Studies at St Helens New Zealand

Auckland Institute of Studies at St Helens (AIS St Helens) is New Zealand's largest and most international independent degree provider, with a roll of 1600 students, of whom around 80% are international students from over 30 different countries.

Welcome to AIS St Helens, a unique tertiary institution with a distinctive international focus. Since its inception, this developing institute has attracted students and staff from countries around the world and now has developed a number of close relationships with leading educational institutions internationally. This network has advantages for our international and New Zealand students.

Our undergraduate and postgraduate students experience expert personalised education. The learning and development of each student is guided by qualified and committed staff who see their primary role as mentors in helping students achieve their goals.

On each campus we ensure that a friendly nurturing environment balances and supports our rigorous and demanding academic programmes. We utilise a variety of monitoring mechanisms to ensure that the quality of our programmes is maintained at the highest international standards. Earning an AIS St Helens academic qualification is for life, and requires each student to demonstrate a high level of personal commitment and integrity.Studying at AIS St Helens is a uniquely rewarding experience.

International EducationStudents and staff come from all over the world to study and teach at AIS St Helens. Our programmes are focussed particularly on the global marketplace and many of our students find work offshore after graduation. Due to the mix of cultures at AIS St Helens, students gain unique opportunities to learn, not only from books and lecturers, but also from their classmates. Many cross-cultural friendships and business ventures have developed within the AIS St Helens family.

Tailored OptionsStudents may choose to take International Business courses as part of their Language and Culture programme. Also, International Business students may select Language and Culture courses to meet their individual career aspirations. For example, a Bachelor of International Business student may undertake studies in Mandarin to gain an added advantage when working with Chinese-speaking business people.

Smaller ClassesOur dedicated teaching staff enjoy personal contact with students and class numbers are kept low to maintain quality standards. Typically there are between 10 and 50 students in first-year degree classes. Compare this to classes of over 300 elsewhere. As a result, our students receive individual attention and are more able to maximise their potential at AIS St Helens.

NurturingDue to the smaller class sizes, our lecturers have the time to get to know students' personal study needs. If a student needs extra help, every effort is made to assist the student to succeed.Fast-track ProgrammesOur flexible three-semester system allows students to fast-track programmes. Dedicated students can complete a diploma or degree in a shorter time than at most traditional institutions, allowing them to enter the workforce more quickly.

Flexibility of Entry DatesStudents may start a programme in January, May or September, or on any Monday (except for the six-weekly test weeks) in the English Language Centre.

Foundation ProgrammesOur foundation programmes allow students to gain valuable study skills and confidence before entering our diploma or degree programmes. Foundation programmes are particularly useful for students with English as a second language, and also suit those who have been out of the school system for some time, or those who have not gained the necessary qualifications to study at tertiary level.

Credit TransferStudents applying to AIS St Helens from other institutions may apply for credit transfers. Once students have arrived to begin their studies, they should completethe Application for Cross-Credit form for consideration of credit transfers.
