and enjoyable. This is a great opportunity for you to improve your
English, make new friends and experience the beauty of Auckland and the

helping you make the most of your time here.
Michael Giacon Head of
School AUT International House
Auckland, New
Zealand
With a
population of only 4 million and a land area slightly larger than the
United Kingdom, it is not surprising that New Zealand is clean and green
with plenty of space for everyone. It is a country of great physical
beauty with snow-capped mountains, large forests, ice blue lakes, deep
valleys, rugged coastlines and beaches of golden sand. The English
spoken in New Zealand is easy to understand, without the strong regional
accents found in many other English speaking countries. The pace of life
in New Zealand is such that people have time to stop and talk, and you
will find that New Zealanders are friendly and enjoy helping foreign
visitors.
Auckland, with
a population of nearly 1.5 million, is New Zealand's largest city and
the commercial capital of the country. It is the international gateway
to New Zealand with world-class restaurants, art galleries, theatres and
concert venues. Beaches, barbeques, swimming and sailing are popular
pastimes for Aucklanders and when you see the number of yachts in the
harbours you will understand why Auckland is called the 'City of Sails'.
Temperatures range from 24 C in summer (December to March) to 11 C in
winter (June to September).
