Welcome to Victoria University of Wellington's
School of Design. The School is a leading centre of Design in New
Zealand. This position is enhanced by its close links with the
School of Architecture -together they form an exciting creative
environment which is unique in New Zealand.
The School's
facilities are widely acknowledged as some of the best in Australasia. Its campus is
a remodelled and radically refurbished cargo building, now an
award-winning landmark in central
Wellington.
The School offers a range of programmes -from single courses to full
professional design programmes and an excellent range of
postgraduate study and research opportunities. The School welcomes
international students in all programmes.
The School's
Bachelor of Design
[BDes] is a four-year professional degree,
comprising a first-year, followed by three years' professional study
specialising in one of:
Industrial Design,
Interior Architecture, and
Landscape Architecture. Other specialisations will be offered in the
future. Most BDes courses can be included in other degree programmes.
Facilities
The School has an exciting variety of
studios, construction workshops, a graphic workroom, a video
production and editing suite,
photography studios and darkroom,
exhibition spaces,
lecture theatres, seminar rooms, and
computer laboratories with a full range of professional design,
graphics, animation, thermal and structural performance simulation
software. All full-time Design students have round-the-clock access to the
building and appropriate workrooms.
Also on campus
is an excellent specialist
Library, a well-furnished student common room with full kitchen
facilities, vending machines, television and couches (postgraduate
students are also welcome to use the staff common room), plus showers
and a sick bay -where Victoria's Student Health Service visit at
regularly scheduled times. Major items of research equipment available in the Faculty include: a
wind tunnel, heliodon, sky simulator, effulger, beam testing rig and
instruments for field measurements of thermal, lighting, acoustic,
ventilation and air quality conditions.
