Penrose High School New Zealand
Penrose
High School is a co-educational, multi-cultural secondary school,
located in central Auckland, close to transport services and surrounded
by lovely park-like grounds.
Penrose High School has a very special reputation
within the New Zealand education system as a school that meets the needs
of its students. High standards of academic performance are achieved and
the full variety of school life is enjoyed. Students are encouraged to
develop as self-motivated, mature young people who are being prepared to
contribute to society as respectful, caring citizens.
The school was opened in 1955 and is well
established with excellent facilities and traditions. Students attending
Penrose High School will receive a complete education with an emphasis
on academic, cultural and sporting excellence. Our pastoral care
programme ensures that every student is cared for in a sensitive and
positive environment.
The full range of academic courses is offered
through to NCEA Level 3 and Scholarship. The school insists
on high standards of behaviour and discipline. Anti-social behaviour is
not tolerated, and this creates a very positive and safe learning
environment. The students wear school uniform at all levels and the
expectation is that it be worn well and with pride.
The teaching staff are of the highest calibre and
are very committed to the students in their care. We focus on
establishing a partnership between the student, the teacher and the
family to ensure that, together, the most effective learning takes
place. The staff are there to ensure that the student's potential is
achieved and that the expectations are high. All staff take an active
part in the various wider aspects of school life so that there are
opportunities for students to follow their interests.
Penrose High School offers a full programme of
sporting and cultural pursuits with several teams having achieved
national success. We are involved in the various cultural festivals and
have our own cultural celebrations. There are over 50 nationalities
represented at Penrose, a feature of the school's uniqueness and diverse
special character. Students are encouraged to gain an awareness of other
countries and their cultures which in turn fosters a strong team ethic
within the school.
Students learn to work with others in pursuit of
learning and understanding. Penrose High School is a school where
children feel an identity and a sense of belonging. The facilities are
constantly being improved and as the school continues to grow, modern
specialist rooms are being added. The school has an extensive computer
network and the students have access to the very latest in educational
and productivity software. There is also a superb art collection which
enhances the school environment. Students excel at music and enjoy the
richness of the programmes that we offer.
One of the main advantages at Penrose High School is
that, although it is close to Auckland City, it has very large sports
fields, gymnasium and park-like student lunch areas amid mature trees.

International Students
Penrose High School welcomes international
fee-paying students and offers places to at least 50 students each year.
Because there are students of many nationalities attending our school,
international students feel at ease.
Fee-paying students are given support through the
English language support department. The director of international
students and the deans monitor the academic achievement of the students
as well as checking attendance. Pastoral care is also provided. This
involves maintaining contact with homestay families and families
overseas to inform them of students' progress.
We aim to ensure that international students have a
valuable social and learning experience at Penrose High School. For
