RUTHERFORD COLLEGE
Rutherford College is a New Zealand Qualifications Authority accredited co-educational Year 9-13
State Secondary School established in 1960.
Located
on the Te Atatu Peninsula in Waitakere City, 10 minutes from downtown Auckland
City, the College offers a wide range of programmes to a school population,
which reflects the unique diversity that is New Zealand society.
Our well-qualified, professional staff are very successful in challenging
students to achieve academic success in national assessments.
The
College encourages student participation in a wide range of extra curricular
activities, again challenging students to reach their full potential in all
areas.
INTERNATIONAL
STUDENTS
Rutherford has
a purpose built International Department catering for 120 International students
from many different parts of the world including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea,
Thailand, Brazil, Chile and others. We can offer foundation English programmes and a timetable
formatted for individual level of English competence and academic ability.
SPECIAL PROGRAMMES
Multi-Level
Timetable, Gifted and Talented Programmes, Learning Support Programmes, ESOL
Programmes, Bridging Course are all offered in recognition of the unique nature
of your child.
PASTORAL
The College has
developed an extensive network, which responds rapidly to student needs. The network includes form teachers, subject teachers, deans,
senior administrators, guidance counsellors and outside agencies.
CULTURAL
Rutherford
provides and encourages student participation in a wide range of cultural
activities. Being a multi-cultural
school, our Maori, Pacific Island, Indian and Korean groups regularly perform in
Cultural Festivals.
Music
tuition is available with vocal groups, choirs and bands performing.
The annual school production is a much awaited community event.
SPORT
Rutherford
offers a wide range of sports and employs a fulltime Sports Co-Ordinator.
We are a FAIRPLAY school and follow the published Hillary Commission
Charter. Sport offered includes,
Athletics, Kilikiti, Softball, Cricket, Netball, Squash, Touch Rugby, Badminton,
Rugby, Tennis, Kayaking, Soccer, Volleyball, Underwater Hockey, Equestrian,
Basketball, Golf, Sailing, Water Polo, Rugby League.
