Kaduna International School, Nigeria



Founded in 1985, Kaduna International School, Nigeria is an independent, multi-racial, non-denominational Nursery and Primary School. It is a non-profit organization for which overall responsibility lies with a Board of Trustees. Policy is set by a Board of Governors comprising representatives from the parents, community and Ministry of Education. The school is recognised by the Office of Overseas Schools at the US State Department, Washington DC and is a member of the Association of International Schools in Africa. The curriculum is based upon typical British independent schools with adaptations for the international student body. Children are placed in class by age. Language and maths work are geared to the individual. All classes have art/craft, games, social studies, science, music, library skills and computer studies. All primary classes also take French from Year 1. Staff are recruited locally and from the UK.
Most children attend Kaduna International School, Nigeria for as long as their parents are working in Nigeria. After leaving Kaduna International School, Nigeria, children may enroll in local secondary schools or go to overseas boarding or day schools. Student enrolment is approximately 86% Nigerian, with the remainder coming from twelve different countries (UK, China, Lebanon, India, USA, Germany, Brazil, Hungary, France, Holland and Italy).
Classes are from 08: 00-13: 30 (nursery class to 12 noon) and there are extra-curricular activities three afternoons a week e. g. football, craft, cookery, needlework, golf, tennis and computers. The school year is divided into three terms, September-December, January-March, April-June.
The school is housed in an area within easy reach of the city centre. The facilities include nine air-conditioned classrooms and an art room. The main administrative block houses the computer laboratory, library, audio room, office/reception area and fully equipped kitchen. There is a main playing field and various play areas.
