The American School of Warsaw (ASW), founded in 1953, is a private, non-profit school serving the educational needs of children of over 50 nationalities. ASW is organized into three school divisions ensuring developmental and age-appropriate settings for students age four years old through to university entrance level. The curriculum is based on widely accepted US and international standards, culminating with the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in the last two years of high school. Graduates attend a variety of top colleges and universities around the world including the US and UK.
Emphasis is placed on the individualization of instruction at American School of Warsaw, ASW. Specialist teachers work in the areas of library science, art, music, physical education, language, speech and computer. Classes in Polish, French, German, Dutch, Spanish and English-as-a-Foreign language complete the curriculum offerings. In addition, an extensive program of sports, drama, music, the arts and numerous other after-school and extra-curricular activities for all students is offered.
The teaching staff is largely composed of experienced American teachers certified in their respective teaching areas. Teachers specializing in learning disabilities and three counselors are on staff full time. Over fifty percent of full-time staff members hold Masters degree or above.
American School of Warsaw, ASW is housed on a new state-of-the-art campus. Facilities include 56 classrooms networked with computers, computer labs, an early childhood wing, science labs, music rooms, art rooms, a theater, gymnasiums, a swimming pool, a full-service cafeteria, full track, soccer fields, softball fields, outdoor tennis and basketball courts, multiple playgrounds and courtyards.
A nine-member Board of Trustees governs the American School of Warsaw, two appointed by the US Ambassador to Poland, two who are selected by the Board of Trustees (one US/one non-US) and five who are elected for two-year terms by an Association comprised of the parent community and the sponsors of the school. The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) President may be a US or non-US citizen and serves for one year. Membership of the Association is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of students enrolled in the school.
The American School of Warsaw is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Eligible students may be admitted at any time during the year if space is available. Transcripts/report cards, health/immunization certificate, verification of date of birth and interview are requirements for admission.
