Maragon Private Schools (Secondary)
At Maragon Private Schools we educate and guide
children to independent adulthood. We ensure that they realise their full
potential - mentally, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. We
develop leadership in our learners and inculcate a love for God, family and
country. A disciplined environment is created in which learners are happy and
secure as they explore their world. Our learners benefit from a high level of
motivation and achievement, with reference to their personal abilities in a
Christian ethos.
Maragon is an independent school in South Africa,
registered with ISASA (Independent Schools Association of South
Africa).
Our academic roles are:
- To
develop and implement teaching and learning programs that are in line with
the best aspects of the National Curriculum in South Africa
- To
ensure that learner progress is monitored through continuous assessment
and that each learner achieves to the best of his/her ability
- To ensure that all learners are properly prepared for success in tertiary
education and / or for meeting the vocational demands of the computer
generation
- To inculcate a culture of autonomous learning and individual aspiration
At High School level, both the Grade 9 (General
Education Certificate) and the Grade 12 (Senior Certificate) are administered
by the IEB
(Independent Examinations Board)
The IEB runs Matriculation Examinations which focus
on academic expertise and interpretive skills. It is a highly respected
examination system which enjoys international recognition.
As a nationally legislated requirement, all schools
are required to comply with the regulation of completing the General Education
and Training (GET) Examination according to the South African Schools Act of
1996. Grade 9 pupils are required to complete this examination at the end of
their Grade 9 school year. This involves portfolio work and an end of year
examination. The GET examination covers eight learning areas: Languages,
Mathematics, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Arts and Culture, Economic
Management Sciences, Technology and Life Skills. As we, at Maragon believe in
equipping our learners to cope in an ever-changing technology-driven
environment, our school curriculum also includes Information Technology in the
GET band. The internal assessment task is conducted in November of each year.
There are many positive aspects to Outcomes Based Education and we embrace
these.
For the Matriculation and School-Leaving
Certificate examination (NQF4) the following subjects are available for
selection in Grade 10, for 2011:
- English
- Afrikaans
- Mathematics

*Additional languages can be taken outside the
school curriculum in order to obtain a seven-subject pass should a candidate be
exempted from taking Afrikaans due to immigrant status as granted by the IEB.
