Learning Support Programme
Kvarngärdet School is a non-fee-paying municipal school that has an international bilingual section, founded 1993 where the tuition is completely in English in Pre-School Class and Grade 1. In Grade 2 tuition is in English 80% and Swedish 20%.

From Grade 3 and upwards it is 50% Swedish and 50% English tuition. The pupils who attend the school meet the following criteria: 1. Children of guest researchers and guest workers in Sweden 2. Children who have English as their mother tongue. 3. Swedish or foreign children who have a good command of English.

Qualified native English-speaking and native Swedish-speaking teachers are responsible for the education programme, which follows the Swedish National curriculum and is adapted to the pupils´ individual needs and levels of knowledge.

The school offers after-school care for children up to the age of nine and a free-time activity club for older children. The school also co-operates with an English day-care center for children between the ages of two to six years old. Senior High School education with English programmes is available at two different schools in Uppsala.

The goal of the education programme is that each child should develop his/her potential in order to have a full life as an adult citizen in a democratic society. All the tuition follows the Swedish national curriculum, pupils and parents focus on the following goals: 1. knowledge 2. self-confidence 3. social competence. Each pupil is treated individually according to his/her varied educational background with regard to the type and length of schooling.

Due to the international nature of the school, with children from 60 different countries, the policy is to promote international awareness as much as possible by focusing on the cultures and traditions of pupils.
